Peter is the Universal Pastor:  we pray for Pope Francis that listening with a compassionate love to all Christians in our search to live the Gospel in the modern world,  he will succeed in bringing renewal and reform to God’s Church – we pray especially that his Encyclical Letter on the Environment will call forth decisive action to care for our Earth and bring about ‘Global Healing’

Peter and Paul carried the Gospel of peace:  we pray for the freedom and peace of our world,  especially in the Cameroon, Sudan and throughout the Middle East, and wherever there is turmoil and conflicts – we pray in particular for the people of the Yemen and the Gulf Region – may we  all have the courage to build a world without war

Peter served the unity of the Churches,  and Paul had the fire of a prophet:  we pray for the unity of all God’s people and that the Church will welcome the prophets who disturb us with the radical God of Jesus: we pray in particular for all those who go the margins and seek Justice for the poor, the excluded and for our refugee sisters and brothers

Peter and Paul were set aside by God’s call for their work:  we pray for men and women ordained at this time to God’s service in our various denominations, and for all preparing for ordination, especially ….
that all might serve with a generous heart and preach the Word with courage and compassion

Jesus is the Cup of Redeeming Blood … that the People of the Eucharist might sacrifice in order to be a community of forgiveness, a living parable of reconciliation and a wellspring of healing: we pray peace and cohesion in our diverse multi-cultural nation and for the unity of all God’s People, sharing One Bread and One Cup

God is the community of equality that empowers the poor …. we pray for all people who are denied the basic necessities of life and for all refugees and those seeking safe asylum, in particular those who have fled because of their LGBT+ identity: may we safeguard their dignity, made in God’s Image and Likeness; for all political and Church leaders that they will work with honesty, integrity and commitment for justice and equality of opportunity for all.

God is diversity in loving unity … we pray for all who have been wounded by the Church’s rejection of their identity and sexuality: may a new acceptance bring healing to the wounded as each person is empowered to offer the gift they are and the gifts they have to enrich the life and mission of God’s People

The disciples wait in the Upper Room of Hope and Expectation for the coming of the Spirit’s Fire:  we pray for all the young people of our parish; may we all use wisely the tools of modern communication technology without becoming addicted to them; and may all of us this Pentecost welcome the Spirit’s renewal of our lives and community, opening ourselves to Gifts of Mission and Ministry

‘Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid’ says Jesus – may we support with renewed generosity the life and mission of our parish community by our giving of prayer, time, energy and money, in service of the Kingdom: we pray too for God’s guidance for our nations as its politics is in chaos, that the Common Good and values of the Kingdom of God may come to the fore and the cries of the poor be heard above all else.

‘I give you a Peace the world cannot give…’ says Jesus – for the courageous doctors and nurses of Medecins sans Frontiere as the bring healing into war zones; for all in need of healing and peace in our parish, especially….

Some are called to ordained ministry or the religious life:  for the students of our Diocese studying for the priesthood in seminaries, especially Henry as he journeys among us here at St Nicks; for those studying for the permanent diaconate in their own parishes;  for our young women and men that they might welcome God’s call to serve with their whole lives in ordained Ministry and Religious Life; for the Church that we might be open to new forms of ordained ministry as the Spirit calls and shapes in our age and for our world

                             LORD YOU CALL US…

All of us are equally called through Baptism and Confirmation to holiness and to ministry:  for our young people and children that they might grow in a sense of vocation, especially those preparing for First Eucharist; for those called to the single life or to Christian marriage may give themselves faithfully to their particular vocation: may we all answer the call to be shepherds one to another, serving the Kingdom and the Gospel, with love for one another and our world;

                             LORD YOU CALL US…

We are all called to life and wholeness:  for those afflicted with hunger and malnutrition, with mental turmoil and disability, for the housebound of our parish, and also for ….
for all who have died recently, especially …. and all who have died of famine or war;

Let us ask Mary, who uttered her ‘Yes’ to God’s Call,  to pray that each will embrace our vocation more profoundly…

‘Obedience to God comes before obedience to men’ says Peter boldly … may we have love’s courage to obey God first, to build a world of equality and freedom, to challenge every injustice, racism and discrimination, safeguarding the dignity of all, especially the vulnerable and those seeking safe refuge and asylum among us and throughout Europe: we pray especially for our brother Azeem, detained this week pending removal to Pakistan where is life is threatened

‘We are witnesses to all this, we and the Holy Spirit’ … may we open wide our hearts to the power of the Spirit that will send us out as joyful witnesses to the Good News, prophets of peace and healers of our brothers and sisters; we pray that our young people will catch from us something of the fire of the Spirit – and we also from them
