Twenty-Second Sunday of Year B

That the People of God might shine before the world with the light of holiness and humanity, free from all hypocrisy

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

That the people of violence and war will discover that peace is the true wisdom and the greatest strength, that war and violence are abhorrent to God – for the people of Afghanistan in their fears for their future, for the United Nations in seeking to guide the nations to peace

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

We pray for those fleeing from Afghanistan and all our Migrant brothers and sisters, all seeking freedom and hope, especially the unaccompanied cild refugees: we pray for greater humanity and courageous leadership from European politicians so that we will hear the cries of desperation and open our hearts and our borders to these suffering brothers and sisters

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

For all entrusted with the ministry to preach and teach in the name of Christ, that they will always listen to the Word, and live the Word with courage before they proclaim the Word in the power of the Holy Spirit

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

As the holidays draw to a close and children and young people return to schools and colleges, we pray for St Nicholas School, St Bede’s, St Bernadette’s and St Brendan’s College and all who teach and all who learn in them – may Christ the Wisdom and Truth of God be always at their centre

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

That here in this parish, as the Covid restrictions are eased, we will re-commit ourselves to building a community of mission and witness, of compassion, courage and care where all are welcomed, valued and safe, a community of belonging that knows how to serve with integrity and love

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

For the sick and housebound, the depressed and despairing, the grieving and hurting that the Lord will heal and comfort: we pray for …;
we pray eternal life for all who have died recently, especially …  and all killed in Afghanistan in recent days those who have perished on the Refugee journey to freedom,
and all whose anniversaries occur at this time: …

               [reader]                   LORD, WE PRAY…
[response]             LEAD US IN THE PATHS OF HOLINESS…

Mary, Mother of the Church, pray with us for our children baptised today and their families:

                                                   HAIL MARY …

We pray in a moment of silence…
